Trinity Sunday, Pride Month Discussion, and More!

Blessings this Trinity Sunday

This Feast celebrates “the one and equal glory” of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, “in Trinity of Persons and in Unity of Being” (Book of Common Prayer, p. 380). We celebrate Trinity Sunday on the first Sunday after Pentecost. Trinity Sunday is one of the seven principal feasts of the church year, and the others are: All Saints’ Day, Christmas Day, the Epiphany, Easter Day, Ascension Day, and the Day of Pentecost.

St. James Pride Month Discussion

To celebrate Pride Month, you are invited to join Matt Wallace and Fr. Jon to meet after the 10:30 a.m. service on May 31, June 7, June 14, and June 21, for fellowship and discussion. This Pride, we’ll take a deep dive into Scripture. We’ll discuss articles from scholars and priests wrestling with the so-called “clobber passages” that have historically been cited as a basis for excluding LGBTQ people, as well as “texts of welcome,” those passages from Scripture affirming that God’s love extends to all. All are welcome to attend. Please email Fr. Jon Feuss at jfeuss@stjla.org if interested in joining.

The group will meet upstairs in the conference room!

Summer Time at the Soup Kitchen

We are blessed that the children of Saint James’ School make salads and 150 sandwiches for our soup kitchen friends week after week. However, they will be away on summer break from June 12 – August 28. If you love making sandwiches or ever wanted to see our Soup Kitchen in action, please consider signing up for a Friday or two throughout the summer so that our school children can get some much needed rest and relaxation.

Save the Date - June 28 Father Jon's Last Service

Fr. Jon Feuss has been appointed Canon to the Ordinary by our Bishop-Elect Antonio Gallardo, and we are so proud of the role he will play in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. Be sure to save the date of Sunday, June 28th, as this will be his final service at St. James. And plan to stay for a festive lunch and goodbye celebration (complete with speeches!) immediately following the service.

Pentecost is THIS Sunday! Dear Friends, I am so excited to be celebrating the great feast of Pentecost with you all – a day when we remember that God is always with us and empowering us to be agents of Christ’s love in the world. Since fire is one of the symbols of the Holy Spirit, please don’t forget to wear something red this Sunday if you are able! Calling All Pentecost Readers! Next Sunday, May 24 we will celebrate Pentecost, one of the principal feasts of the church year, which takes place 50 days after Easter (the term Pentecost means fiftieth day). On this day, we marvel at the power of the Holy Spirit in our midst. Here at St James, we love the tradition of hearing scripture read in multiple languages on Pentecost Day, representing the universality of the Holy Spirit. Do you speak a language you would like to share in a reading...
