LA Voice Visit, Shabbat with Mother Kate, and St. James' Day!

This Sunday - a return visit from Carlos Rodriguez of LA Voice

Over the past year here at Saint James, our concern has grown for the safety of our community because of ICE raids. One of our own vestry members is currently still in a detention center, and we worry about the safety of our vulnerable soup kitchen guests. And so, we have been developing a relationship with a faith based organization called LA Voice to help us learn more about how we can help. This Sunday, immediately following the 10:30am service, LA Voice representative Carlos Rodriguez will return for another visit. It will be upstairs in the Parish Hall building.

This time, he will help us map the landscape of our elected representatives here in Los Angeles, so that we can build relationships with them. He will also help us understand the ways that other churches are getting involved. I hope that you will join us for this opportunity for learning, so that we can be part of the solution.

Peace, Kate+

How to Watch the Consecration of Our New Bishop - TOMORROW

A website providing of information related to the upcoming series of events set to welcome the Rev. Dr. Antonio J. Gallardo L. as eighth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles is now live here.

Published in English and Spanish, the webpages offer details of the July 11 consecration at All Saints Church in Pasadena and concurrent watch parties around the diocese; the July 12 installation at St. John's Cathedral preceded by the afternoon downtown "Walk for Love and Truth"; and upcoming summer Saturday celebrations in each of the diocese's 10 geographic deaneries. Topics include ticketing for the consecration and installation, opportunities to share in giving gifts planned for the new bishop, and arrangements for a July 10 clergy gathering with Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe.

The new website has been created by Samantha Wylie, diocesan program officer and Diocesan Convention coordinator, working in collaboration with the consecration and transition committees appointed by the diocesan Standing Committee.

Save the Date - St. James Day July 26

Every year on the final weekend of July, we celebrate our patron saint, St. James! This year we will again enjoy a visit from our favorite taco truck and celebrate with cake. If you’d like to bring something, salads, and fruit salads are most welcome! In the past, we have gathered on the St. James school field; however, this year, we will stay cool in our own parish hall with overflow into the courtyard! Be sure to join us for a festive summer lunch!

Update on Kitchen Stove Fundraising

The energy unleashed by our community in support of a New Kitchen Stove has been a marvel to behold! Clearly, friends of Soup Kitchen have been spreading the word to open hearts as contributions flow in from the St. James’ community and from around the country. We’ll keep the donation link live for one more week, confident that we will reach our goal by then. Hope is alive. Gratitude is endless.

Donation link is available right here!
