Monks Participating in the Walk for Peace Visit St. James’ School

This week, our students welcomed three Buddhist monks to our weekly Chapel ceremony - our theme was peace.

You may know the Venerable Luangpor Jeww, alongside Venerable Thawee Insamrong and Venerable Bounthavy Phatsaphan, from their Peace Walk - a months-long, meditative journey from Texas to Washington, D.C., rooted in mindfulness, compassion, and nonviolence.

Inspired by our guests, the whole school walked out of chapel silently. Our students carried signs in support of peace and love and offered flowers to the monks as a symbol of gratitude.

This visit was made possible through the thoughtfulness of the Yoon Family, who shared a tradition meaningful to them with our wider community.

Evensong Celebrating Our Friend Bob Williams

Our Evensong service this Sunday, February 8 at 4:15PM celebrates forty years of diocesan ministry on the part of beloved St. James’ parishioner Bob Williams. Bob Williams serves the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles as canon for common life, overseeing communications, interfaith and civic relations, and archival collections at the direction of Bishop John Harvey Taylor. An appointed commissioner of the City of Los Angeles, Bob also is president of the board of trustees of the Neighborhood Youth Association, a 120-year-old diocesan institution dedicated to 100% college placement of under-resourced youth. Based in both New York and Los Angeles in 2004-2008, he served as the Episcopal Church’s director of communications, managing the Episcopal News Service and reporting from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and across the Americas. In 1986, the first story Bob wrote for the diocesan newspaper was about outreach ministry at St. James’, where he has been a parishioner since 1996.

Please join us for this festive occasion and reception to follow.

Supporting Saint James' in 2026

Dear Friends,

One thing that is incredibly helpful for us to is how much you hope to be able to give to Saint James’ in 2026 – the church word for this is “pledging.” Pledging allows us to create a balanced budget and plan out our ministries for the upcoming year. Please take some time to pray this week about how you’ll be able to support the great work this community does here. We hope that everyone will pledge.

To date, we have pledges totaling $784,568. Our goal for a balanced budget is $904,000. We are 84% of the way there. If you have not yet pledged, you can make your pledge on online here.

We wish you many blessings,

Please report emails like this as spam. Vestry Slate Thank you to Jean Dillingham, Cathy Helm, Bright Onyenwe, Sandra Spencer, SaraJane Thies, and Marsha Vargas for stepping forward to be on the Vestry slate this year.
