Meet the Wardens!

With a new Vestry class comes new Wardens. We are excited to share that Mike Mullins (mmullins@stjla.org) will be our Senior Warden and Lynn McCarthy (lmccarthy@stjla.org) will be our Junior Warden. We want to thank Ken Robbins and Chris Marcil for their incredible work as they respectively served as Senior and Junior Warden.

Bishop-Elect names Jon Feuss Canon to the Ordinary

Bishop-elect Antonio J. Gallardo L. will call the Rev. Jon Feuss — currently Associate Rector at St. James’ in-the-City, Los Angeles — to serve as Canon to the Ordinary and Chief of Staff in the Diocese of Los Angeles beginning July 11.

“Through my experience working alongside bishops in our church, I have come to understand just how vital it is to have the right partner serving as canon to the ordinary,” Gallardo L. said in announcing Feuss’ call. “This role requires deep trust, shared vision, and steadfast faith. Jon is someone I trust completely. We are united in the conviction that we are called to serve God and God’s people with humility and courage.

“Our shared calling is rooted in living and loving like Jesus Christ. Together we are committed to strengthening the Jesus Movement by listening deeply, inviting authentically, and equipping God’s people to embrace their God-given mission. We both bring strong business backgrounds, and we each came to the Episcopal Church from different faith traditions. We honor the rich tradition of our church while remaining open to the Spirit’s ongoing work of renewal and transformation.

“While Jon and I share core values, I am continually enriched by his distinct perspective. His voice, shaped by the experiences of a younger generation, brings insight, energy, and wisdom that will bless our common ministry.”

Feuss will officially begin his new role in July, upon Bishop Gallardo L.’s consecration, and will be actively engaged in transition conversations throughout May and June.

Feuss, 40, currently serves on the planning committee for the Episcopal Parish Network conference, Diocesan Council, and the Diocesan Program Group on Compensation and Benefits. He is also a facilitator in the newly launched Requiem and Renaissance program for congregations.

Prior to joining St. James’ in 2019, Feuss was a manager at Deloitte Consulting, and more recently, the Senior Director of HR Operations for the National Football League. Feuss was sponsored for ordination by St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in Mar Vista. While a deacon, he assisted at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in San Pedro.

Feuss holds a Master of Divinity degree from the Episcopal Theological School at Claremont/Bloy House and is a graduate of Rowan University where he earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science.

“I am humbled and thrilled that Bishop-elect Gallardo, whose vision inspires me, has asked me to serve as his Canon to the Ordinary and Chief of Staff,” Feuss said. “I thank God for the great work done by Bishop Taylor and Canon McCarthy, and I look forward to learning from them during this time of transition. I am so very excited to meet folks from all across the diocese and be of support to them and their ministries.”

“We are eager for the day when the entire diocesan community will come to know us more deeply,” said Gallardo L., “and when we, in turn, will have the gift of knowing you more deeply as well.”

LA Voice Visits St. James Sunday March 8 – Save the date!

We are blessed that, immediately following the 10:30AM service on March 8, we will enjoy a visit by friends from LA Voice. This organization protects the rights of immigrants and other vulnerable people, and we will learn all about their work. Come upstairs to Hampton Hall for a powerful discussion, including ideas for how we can get involved in supporting the rights of our beloved siblings in this challenging time.

A Zoom class during Lent - Passion Week in Visual Arts

Join St. James’ church member and art historian Nancy Bishop for four Tuesday evenings in Lent to see how artists and craftspeople through the ages have interpreted the Gospel accounts of Passion Week. We will see cloaks and Palm leaves on Sunday followed by many events leading up to the glorious Resurrection on the first Easter morning.

Our class will meet from 7-8 pm on the following Tuesday nights: March 3, 10, 17, and 24. RSVP to Kate if you are interested in joining: kcress@stjla.org.

Supporting Saint James in 2026

Dear Friends,

One thing that is incredibly helpful for us to is how much you hope to be able to give to Saint James’ in 2026 – the church word for this is “pledging.” Pledging allows us to create a balanced budget and plan out our ministries for the upcoming year. Please take some time to pray this week about how you’ll be able to support the great work this community does here. We hope that everyone will pledge.

To date, we have pledges totaling $805,168.28. Our goal for a balanced budget is $904,000. We are 90% of the way there. If you have not yet pledged, you can make your pledge on online here.
