Pentecost is THIS Sunday!Dear Friends, I am so excited to be celebrating the great feast of Pentecost with you all – a day when we remember that God is always with us and empowering us to be agents of Christ’s love in the world. Since fire is one of the symbols of the Holy Spirit, please don’t forget to wear something red this Sunday if you are able! Kate+ Sunday School Activity for PentecostThis Sunday, during the first half of the 10:30 AM service, parents and children are invited to meet in the parish hall for a fun Pentecost lesson and sign-ups for parents as we plan Sunday School for the future. St. James Pride Month DiscussionTo celebrate Pride Month, you are invited to join Matt Wallace and Fr. Jon to meet after the 10:30 a.m. service on May 31, June 7, June 14, and June 21, for fellowship and discussion. This Pride, we’ll take a deep dive into Scripture. We’ll discuss articles from scholars and priests wrestling with the so-called “clobber passages” that have historically been cited as a basis for excluding LGBTQ people, as well as “texts of welcome,” those passages from Scripture affirming that God’s love extends to all. All are welcome to attend. Please email Fr. Jon Feuss at jfeuss@stjla.org if interested in joining. Summer Time at the Soup KitchenWe are blessed that the children of Saint James’ School make salads and 150 sandwiches for our soup kitchen friends week after week. However, they will be away on summer break from June 12 – August 28. If you love making sandwiches or ever wanted to see our Soup Kitchen in action, please consider signing up for a Friday or two throughout the summer so that our school children can get some much needed rest and relaxation. Calling All Pentecost Readers! Next Sunday, May 24 we will celebrate Pentecost, one of the principal feasts of the church year, which takes place 50 days after Easter (the term Pentecost means fiftieth day). On this day, we marvel at the power of the Holy Spirit in our midst. Here at St James, we love the tradition of hearing scripture read in multiple languages on Pentecost Day, representing the universality of the Holy Spirit.
