St. James Pride Month Discussion

To celebrate Pride Month, you are invited to join Matt Wallace and Fr. Jon to meet after the 10:30 a.m. service one last time on June 21, for fellowship and discussion. This Pride, we’ve been taking a deep dive into Scripture. We are discussing articles from scholars and priests wrestling with the so-called “clobber passages” that have historically been cited as a basis for excluding LGBTQ people, as well as “texts of welcome,” those passages from Scripture affirming that God’s love extends to all. Summer Time at the Soup Kitchen

We are blessed that the children of Saint James’ School make salads and 150 sandwiches for our soup kitchen friends week after week. However, they will be away on summer break from June 12 – August 28. If you love making sandwiches or ever wanted to see our Soup Kitchen in action, please consider signing up for a Friday or two throughout the summer so that our school children can get some much needed rest and relaxation.

When a beloved clergy or staff person leaves St. James, it is customary to take up a collection called a ‘purse.’ If you would like to contribute to a purse for Fr. Jon, click this link. Godly Play Sunday School – This Sunday

A Godly Play lesson will be available for children at the beginning of the 10:30 service on Sunday, June 21st in the parish hall. The lesson will last about 20 minutes, after which parents and children may return to the church. All children must be accompanied by a trusted adult.

Save the Date - June 28 Father Jon's Last Service

Fr. Jon Feuss has been appointed Canon to the Ordinary by our Bishop-Elect Antonio Gallardo, and we are so proud of the role he will play in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. Be sure to save the date of Sunday, June 28th, as this will be his final service at St. James. And plan to stay for a festive lunch and goodbye celebration (complete with speeches!) immediately following the service.

Website provides details on events to welcome bishop-elect

A website providing of information related to the upcoming series of events set to welcome the Rev. Dr. Antonio J. Gallardo L. as eighth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles is now live here.

Published in English and Spanish, the webpages offer details of the July 11 consecration at All Saints Church in Pasadena and concurrent watch parties around the diocese; the July 12 installation at St. John's Cathedral preceded by the afternoon downtown "Walk for Love and Truth"; and upcoming summer Saturday celebrations in each of the diocese's 10 geographic deaneries. Topics include ticketing for the consecration and installation, opportunities to share in giving gifts planned for the new bishop, and arrangements for a July 10 clergy gathering with Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe.

The new website has been created by Samantha Wylie, diocesan program officer and Diocesan Convention coordinator, working in collaboration with the consecration and transition committees appointed by the diocesan Standing Committee.

All invited to July 11 consecration watch parties scheduled across diocese

Festive watch parties scheduled across the six-county Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles on Saturday, July 11, will offer livestream video coverage of the ordination and consecration of the Rev. Dr. Antonio José Gallardo Lucena as its 8th bishop in 1o a.m. rites at All Saints Church in Pasadena.

Because seating at All Saints is limited and in-person attendance at the consecration service will be ticketed, the consecration committee has arranged the watch parties in each of the diocese's 10 geographic deaneries so Episcopalians across diocese can participate together. A directory of congregations in each deanery is here.

Watch parties will screen the livestream, which will be available on the diocesan Facebook page and the YouTube channel of All Saints, Pasadena.

Deanery celebrations to greet diocese’s 8th bishop begin July 18

Following the July 11 ordination and consecration of the Rev. Dr. Antonio José Gallardo Lucena as the 8th Bishop of Los Angeles, a series of weekly deanery celebrations across the Diocese of Los Angeles on Saturdays beginning July 18 and continuing through Sept. 26. All celebrations are scheduled for 11 a.m.
