Godly Play, Confirmation Class Reminder, and More!

Festive St. James' Day Last Sunday

Last Sunday we enjoyed a special day of hellos, goodbyes and celebration.  Our interim director of music, Bruce Neswick, joined us for one final service; incoming director of music Chris Caruso-Lynch stepped on board in his new role; longtime church member Monica Watters celebrated a big birthday in style; and last but not least, the feast day of our patron saint, James the Greater. A HUGE thank you to the St James Men’s Group for funding the taco truck again this year - what a delightful gift to the community!

Godly Play in the Parish Hall

Godly Play, a fun class for our St. James children, will be every 1st and 3rd Sunday during 10:30am service! Parents may drop off their children ages 3 and up at Godly Play in the Parish Hall before 10:30AM service for a child-focused lesson. Children under the age of 3 may attend with a trusted adult. Two adult volunteers will be present, and parents will be asked to sign a consent form. Children will be returned to their parents in the church by adult volunteers by the time of announcements. Come join us this Sunday for fun, child-centered lessons and activities!

The Godly Play Schedule is below:

August 16
September 6 (No Godly Play, Labor Day)
September 20
October 4

Confirmation Class to Begin

There’s still time to join Confirmation class which begins next Tuesday

I will be teaching a four-session confirmation class on the following dates: August 4, 11, 25 and September 1. These classes will meet on Tuesday nights on Zoom at 7 PM in the evening and will last one hour. Please email me if you would like to participate! This class can lead to confirmation or reception into the church if you have already been confirmed elsewhere.

And then, on September 13, our new bishop, The Rt Rev Antonio Gallardo Lucena will visit our church and confirm or receive the people who have taken the class. This also will also be a wonderful day for baptisms, so if you have been considering baptism, I would love to hear from you too.

Save the date - Sunday, August 16

I am sad to say that our vestry member Martin, held at an ICE’s Adelanto Detention Center over these past many months, may be facing deportation in August. Join me and our friend Carlos Rodriguez from LA Voice to talk about ways we can speak out for the safety, dignity and rights of our friends. We will meet following the 10:30 service on August 16.

Bishop’s Visit - This Sunday, September 13th We are so looking forward to a visit and baptism from our new Bishop, The Right Rev. Antonio Gallardo Lucena on September 13. In addition to preaching, he will confirm, receive, and baptize members of the English speaking and Korean speaking congregations. Our New St. James’ Team This week, our new team got together for coffee and bagels. Father John Kim and I welcomed our new director of music, Chris Caruso-Lynch, who began his work here in July....

New Senior Associate Rector for St. James Dear Friends, I have great news. We have a new senior associate rector! His name is The Rev. Tim Hartley, and he is currently serving as senior associate rector at Church of Our Saviour in the San Gabriel Valley. Tim+ is a very talented and dynamic priest, equally strong in preaching, pastoral skills, mission and outreach, and with a background in business. I am so excited to have this wonderful colleague coming aboard, and so happy that the Holy...
