A Hike for Young Adults, Evensong Reminder, and We've Commissioned New Music!

St. James’ Commissions Music by Belizean Composer Errollyn Wallens

St. James is delighted to announce the commissioning of a new setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by composer Errollyn Wallen, Master of the King’s Music. Ms. Wallen is a "multi award-winning Belize-born British composer named as one of the world’s top twenty most performed living classical composers. Her prolific output includes over twenty operas and a large catalogue of orchestral, chamber and vocal works, which are performed and broadcast throughout the world.” In the area of church music, Ms. Wallen has written music for, among others, Westminster Abbey, King’s College Cambridge, and Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford.

The “St. James’ Service” is commissioned in honor of Canon James Buonemani’s 31 years of service as Director of Music at St. James in-the-City, Los Angeles. The work is made possible in part by a grant from the Association of Anglican Musicians. It will be premiered by the Choir of St. James in 2027.

A Hike for St. James’ Young Adults

At St. James’ we broadly define young adults as people in their 20s, 30s and 40s. On Saturday, November 20 at 2pm, children and adults over 50 are welcome to join us too, when the St. James Young Adults will meet in the parking lot at Tree People Park at Coldwater Canyon, 12601 Mulholland Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90210 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/by3JQXtCSVhkY35D6) for hiking, companionship, and prayer. The park has free parking and family-friendly trails and amenities.

We plan for the event to be about 90 minutes. We will keep the hike to about an hour, including a reading and discussion of the Sermon On The Mount, while we enjoy the view from the Santa Monica Mountains. Families who want to stay and enjoy the park are welcome to.

For questions, please email parishioner Peter Casey at pccasey@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you there!

All Saints’ Day Celebrated this Sunday One of the beautiful traditions on All Saints’ Day at St. James’ is to begin the service in our small chapel reading out the names of all those loved ones who have passed. This includes the names of all who are interred in our columbarium; those whose funerals have taken place at St. James’ in the past year; and, the names of any loved ones that church members would like to hear. These could be people who passed in 2026 or previously. If you would like...
